THE REVEREND MICHAEL S. WHITE, RECTOR

In July 2008, The Rev. Michael S. White became Christ Church’s forty-first rector. He is married to The Rev. Helen S. White, and they have two sons, Ethan and Jay. Previously, he served as the priest-in-charge for Christ Church, Georgetown in Washington, D.C.; as a religious advisor for the U.S. Senate; as rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Durham, North Carolina; and as rector of St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Richmond Hill, Georgia. He graduated from the Virginia Theological Seminary in 1995 and was ordained to the sacred order of priests on January 5, 1996. In the Diocese of North Carolina, he served as the Diocesan Ecumenical Officer and, in the Diocese of Georgia, as a spiritual director for Happening, Cursillo, and summer camps at Honey Creek, the diocesan retreat center. His wife also serves at Christ Church as the Assistant for Children and Family Ministries.  The Reverend Michael White is part of a long and distinguished list of rectors for our parish including Henry Herbert (1733), John Wesley (1736-37), George Whitefield (1738-40), The Rt. Rev. Stephen Elliott (1852-59 and 1861-66), The Rt. Rev. John Waltrous Beckwith (1873-74), John Durham Wing (1918-22), David C. Wright (1924-44), F. Bland Tucker (1945-67) and George M. Maxwell (1973-91). A native of Georgia, Father White is especially pleased to serve as rector of “The Mother Church of Georgia.”
