THE RIGHT REVEREND SCOTT A. BENHASE, D.MIN., BISHOP OF GEORGIA
The Right Reverend Scott Anson Benhase, D.D., the tenth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia, was consecrated on January 23, 2010. The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church served as chief consecrator. Prior to his consecration, Bishop Benhase was rector of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Washington, D.C.
Bishop Benhase was born and raised in southern Ohio and, in 1979, graduated from DePauw University in Indiana. After college, he was appointed an overseas missionary of The Episcopal Church and served for one year in Honduras. In 1980 he entered Virginia Theological Seminary whence he graduated in 1983. That same year he was ordained to the sacred order of priests and, one year later, he married the former Kelly Jones. They have been married for over 25 years, and are the parents of three adult children: Jake, Charley, and Mary Grace. Prior to serving at St. Alban’s, Bishop Benhase served parishes in Durham, North Carolina, Charlottesville, Virginia, East Cleveland, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana.
