PARISH LIFE

In addition to opportunities for service in worship and ministries of compassion, there are many opportunities to connect with others at Christ Church. Some of the ways to connect are:

Book Group

Meetings to discuss an assigned book are in the undercroft on the second Thursday morning of each month.  A volunteer in the group provides light refreshments.  The book list is established through recommendations from group members and voted on in December for the next year.  All are welcome to attend regularly or occasionally. Contact the Reverend Patti Davis for more information.

IN THE SPIRIT

Informal discussions are held on the first and third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at The 5 Spot in Sandfly to discuss theological issues. All are welcome to join the group. Contact the Reverend Samantha K. McKean for more information.

HOSPITALITY MINISTRY

Events such as our Mardi Gras Party and Fall party are held each year as opportunities for fellowship outside of Sunday mornings. Please contact the office to volunteer to help with these events.

RECEPTIONS

Volunteers set out refreshments, keep platters and pitchers filled and move items to the kitchen after the Sunday morning receptions.  The Sunday Sexton washes the service items and puts them away.  Volunteers for set up prior to the service should contact Ann Miller; for assisting during the receptions, contact Marie Dent.

TOURS

The parish receives requests for weekday tours from various groups including those interested in architecture, John Wesley’s service at Christ Church, Juliette Gordon Low and the Episcopal Church in general.  Tour guides meet the group, provide historical information about the church and escort them through the building.  Training is provided. Contact the office for more details.

ADMINISTRATION, COUNT TEAMS AND PARISH GARDEN

Office volunteers, assistance with upkeep in the Parish House Memorial Garden, and teams to help count the offering after services are needed on a regular basis. Office volunteers typically assist on Wednesdays or Thursdays to help with mailings, assembling of the Sunday bulletin and to answer the phone. Periodic maintenance of our garden is needed and generally occurs on Thursday or Saturday mornings. For more information or to help, please contact the office.

WEDDING TEAM

A member of the team assists a wedding party at the wedding rehearsal and the ceremony.   In the recent past, there have been six or eight weddings per year.  Weddings are generally scheduled far in advance, so early notice of the date is given to the team and volunteers sign up based upon their availability. Contact the office for more information.

YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY

Our young adults gather for fellowship throughout the year. If you are interested in being part of this group or are willing to help volunteer to plan events, please contact Reverend Samantha McKean.

For additional information regarding these opportunities please contact the church office.
