WORSHIP - Getting involved

"Liturgy" means work of the people. Many parishioners at Christ Church work together in ministry teams to support our common life of worship. Some of the ways you can be involved in worship are:

Acolytes

Youth and children, third to twelfth grades, assist in the 10:30 worship services.  Training is offered for new volunteers.  Acolyte teams (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) serve once a month.  Adult volunteers periodically check the state of the acolyte albs and clean them when needed either by washing them at home or having them dry cleaned. For more information contact The Reverend Samanth K. McKean.

ALTAR GUILD

The Altar Guild prepares the church and its sacred communion vessels for services. Members install seasonal hangings, set the credence table for celebration of the Holy Eucharist at all services and order supplies for the altar and communion. Members sign up for the dates they prefer, and typically serve three times each quarter. For more information contact Holley Helfrich or Wanda Bohnstedt.

FLOWER GUILD

The flower guild is led by monthly coordinators. Under the guidance of a lead arranger, a team of volunteers prepares flowers for Sunday and special services.  Typically volunteers meet on Saturday morning to prepare for the next day.  Each Flower Guild member serves one or two times each quarter.  Experience is not required.  Training is provided. Contact Catherine Gussler for more information.

LAY EUCHARIST MINISTERS

These individuals assist the clergy by serving wine from chalices at Holy Eucharist.  They serve approximately once per month.  Training is required.  Contact Karl Bohnstedt for more information.

LECTORS

Volunteers read the Scripture lessons at services on a rotating basis.  Training is offered as needed. Contact Montie Acuff for more information.

RECEPTIONS

Volunteers set out refreshments, keep platters and pitchers filled and move items to the kitchen after the Sunday morning receptions.  The Sunday Sexton washes the service items and puts them away.  Volunteers for set up prior to the service should contact Betty Pember; for assisting during the receptions, contact Marie Dent.

DOCENTS/CHURCH TOURS

Christ Church is open daily to visitors. We have a strong docent program allowing tours of the church when requested. We also receive requests for tours from Girl Scouts and groups from other churches. These are arranged in advance. Contact the church office for more information.

USHERS

Ushers greet and welcome our members and visitors, distribute service leaflets and assist with seating and special needs.  Team captains assign duties each Sunday, and ushers typically serve three or four times each quarter. Contact Stephen Hooten for more information.
