Chorister Program

An Experience to Last a Lifetime

This coming fall, Christ Church will start a new chorister program for all children and youth in 3rd through 12th grades, under the direction of Director of Music George Fergus. This program seeks to instill a lifelong love of music and our Episcopal liturgy and give children the opportunity to be leaders in their community, learning valuable life skills along the way.

Who Can Sing?

The program is open to students of all genders entering 3rd grade and up, regardless of church membership or religious background. Prior choral experience or vocal training are not required; we are delighted to invite all those with a passion to learn to sing!

Weekly Schedule

Late August through May:

Wednesdays

  • 5:15-6:30 p.m. — Treble rehearsal

  • 7-7:45 p.m. — changed voices rehearsal (with Adult Choir)

Sundays as scheduled

  • 10:30 a.m. — Holy Eucharist

The Christ Church Chorister Program is affiliated with the American arm of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM). This internationally recognized organization has ties to churches and cathedrals throughout the world, and provides a support structure for music education in churches in our tradition. The choristers at Christ Church use the RSCM’s Voice for Life musicianship curriculum and have the opportunity to proudly display their achievements and milestones through the RSCM’s medal and award program.

Program Highlights

  • Annual Chorister Camp to kick off the year in mid August

  • Christmas caroling at Riverview Retirement Center

  • Performance on the annual Christ Church Joy of Christmas concert

  • Christmas Eve pageant service

More Than Just Music

Choristers receive instruction in musicianship, music theory, and liturgy in the course of regular weekly rehearsals. They also receive private voice lessons as part of their individual vocal training. In addition, students who participate in a chorister program discover many other benefits and life lessons, such as leadership, self-confidence, time management, professionalism, theology, and so much more!
